Organization Stories

Here are some of the organizations that have used Living Proof Advocacy™ coaching programs, consulting services or certification to build teams and strengthen their advocacy.

womenheart: the national coalition for women with heart disease

Each year, 30 to 60 women with heart disease attend a WomenHeart symposium at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where they learn how to share their stories as WomenHeart Champions in the fight against heart disease. Since the first symposium more than 20 years ago, we have teamed with WomenHeart to bring Living Proof Advocacy principles to their work … preparing more than 900 champions nationwide. Little Free Library

Little Free Library—the organization behind the global phenomenon of miniature libraries in front of homes and office buildings—has worked with LPA to elevate their board members’ storytelling advocacy for the organization’s mission: ensuring access to books without hindrance caused “by time, space, or privilege.” Read some of their board and staff’s “Six-Word Reasons” and learn more about Little Free Library.

Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research

Living Proof Advocacy is proud to support The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) in many ways, from training 100+ advocates via the Advocate Startup Series, to preparing patients and caregivers to share their lived experiences during their FDA Listening Session on Pulmonary Sarcoidosis conducting media training for advocate television appearances, facilitating patient focus groups with FSR for pharmaceutical partners, and supporting the Ignore No More campaign, focusing on Black women with sarcoidosis and engaging actress, Jeryl Prescott, as spokesperson. In 2022, two FSR staff members became LPA-certified as coaches to offer ongoing support to advocates. Learn more about FSR.

the stability network

The Stability Network aims to “redefine the mental health narrative, one story at a time.” It does so with a growing team of Stability Network Leaders around the world. These leaders—all of whom are in the workforce and openly share their own mental health stories—inspire hope among those who struggle with mental health conditions. They also instill confidence among employers. To increase the effectiveness of these leaders, The Stability Network has engaged Living Proof Advocacy consulting services, offered customized workshops and a coaching program, and certified three of their members as LPA certified coachesLearn more about The Stability Network.

the national safety council

As author Mary Pipher once noted, “Life itself assigns us our causes.” Nowhere is this more evident than in the National Safety Council’s Survivor Advocacy Program, which provides Living Proof Advocacy coaching to advocates, many of whose lives have been forever changed by a traumatic event. Navigating personal stories that originate in extreme trauma, loss and pain, these survivor advocates learn how to link their experiences to important messages about road safety, opioid abuse and other critical safety issues so that their stories transform from tragic evidence to positive advocacy. Align Minneapolis

A program within Align Minneapolis, Street Voices of Change presents stories from lived experience shared by individuals who have faced past and present homelessness. In their work with the LPA team, their advocates learned our storytelling fundamentals and how to share their stories in order to reach their goal, to “broaden empathy and breakdown stigmas for those experiencing homelessness.” LPA provides one-one-one training to help prepare advocates to speak with legislators, community groups, and others.
