Why is the ALL VOICES program open to those in communication "and related fields"?

ALL VOICES is a free eight-week professional development program for individuals who want to do the kind of work we are so fortunate to do at Living Proof Advocacy—helping others tap the power of their personal stories—and who identify as from groups underrepresented in communication and related fields: those who identify as Black, Indigenous, Hispanic/Latino/a/x/e, Asian or Asian American, multiracial/multiethnic, LGBTQIA+, gender non-conforming, two-spirit and/or as having disabilities.

What are “related fields”? Glad you’ve asked (as have others).

While our backgrounds are squarely within communication, we know that people come to this rewarding work with a wide variety of interests and expertise including:

  • public relations and media

  • journalism

  • oral history or personal narrative work

  • public speaking

  • storytelling

  • advocacy and activism

  • cause-related marketing

  • public-interest communication

  • health communication

  • theatre or performance studies

  • community organizing

  • nonprofit management

…and backgrounds we probably haven’t thought of yet!

But, what’s the “early-stage” or “mid-stage” of a career?

ALL VOICES is also open to those at the “early-” or “mid-stage” of their career or life path. We define “early-stage” as people who are just getting started and “mid-stage” as those who are building new skills or seeking new opportunities. The stage is not defined by your age, educational level or professional status.

If you’re thinking of applying to ALL VOICES and wonder if your background fits, contact us to discuss—either at John@LivingProofAdvocacy.com or Tim@LivingProofAdvocacy.com.

Visit the ALL VOICES page for more information and details on how to apply.
