Living Proof Advocacy helps purpose-driven individuals and organizations use personal stories to advocate for positive social change. We do so by providing communication coaching, consulting services and coaching certification to everyday advocates, nonprofits, public agencies and communication professionals working on today’s most important issues.
To provide tools, coaching, services and support that are so effective and accessible that anyone can realize the power of their personal story to make a difference in the lives of others.
Living Proof Advocacy, Inc. grew out of the work of Tim Cage and John Capecci, two communication professionals who met in graduate school while studying the power of stories told aloud. Tim and John offer the core principles of their work in their book, Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference, and have developed the LPA Coaching Certification to help others learn and apply their methods of coaching individuals who are telling their personal stories to advocate for the causes they hold dear.
our core beliefs
Living Proof Advocacy maintains a singular focus on the success of individual advocates who are sharing their personal stories to advance causes that promote health, equity, justice and compassion.
We are “the advocate’s advocate,” and ground our work in five core beliefs that are supported by research, scholarship, best practices and field experience:
Stories—particularly personal stories shared by the individuals who experienced them—have the ability to engage and impact listeners in compelling ways.
Live, spoken, face-to-face communication is at the heart of advocacy and carries a tangible, physical presence and authority—especially as compared to written, visual and digital communications.
Advocacy is a persuasive act, and personal stories help influence others.
Personal stories help motivate change in individuals and shift larger cultural narratives.
Each individual's experience of publicly sharing personal stories is complex and nuanced—emotionally, physically, socially and psychologically.
We favor principles over rules, presence over polish, impact over affect and long-term capacity-building over quick fixes.
